Product Details
The silver stater of Anactorium is a coin of considerable historical and numismatic distinction, produced by one of Acarnania’s most important Corinthian colonies at a mint whose output reflected the city’s position as a significant commercial and maritime center on the Ambracian Gulf. This Anactorium AR Stater features a Very Fine grade from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC), with strong grades for strike (4/5) and surface (5/5) quality. Like its Leucan neighbor, Anactorium participated in the broader Corinthian coinage tradition while stamping its own civic identity onto the coins it produced, creating pieces whose shared iconographic language and locally distinctive details make them fascinating subjects for collectors and students of ancient Greek numismatics alike.
This Acarnania Anactorium AR Stater Coin features a Very Fine certification with strong grades for its strike and surface conditions. 4/5 strike grades indicate a coin with a good strike that is relatively well-centered on the coin, while a 5/5 surface grade points to a coin with minimal signs of wear and tear from handling in circulation use. These two grades, combined, point to a coin with exceptionally pleasing surface qualities.
On the obverse of Anactorium AR Stater Coins, you will find the winged Pegasus rendered with the fluid, energetic grace that makes the finest examples of this coinage type so immediately compelling, accompanied by the city’s identifying letters or symbols that distinguish Anactorium’s issues from those of the other Corinthian colonies in the region. The reverse of the Acarnania AR Stater Silver Coin comes with a bust of Athena. This particular version presents Athena’s helmeted head with the careful, precise detail of accomplished ancient die engraving, the goddess’s features, and the elaborate crest of her Corinthian helmet executed with a precise refinement.
