Jennie Norris, who previously volunteered as a raptor handler, found inspiration for her design through her experiences working with birds of prey. Spending time observing these animals up close allowed her to study the finer details of their appearance and behavior. This experience influenced the careful approach she used when creating the eagle design seen on the American Gold Eagle.

The obverse design of the 2026American Gold Eaglefeatures Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ well-known portrayal of Lady Liberty. The Capitol building is visible in the background on the left side of the design.
