The Britannia bullion series from The Royal Mint made its debut in 1987. This collection is one of two annual bullion programs from the mint, offered alongside the long-standing Gold Sovereign. The British Gold Britannia was the first release in the series, with several weights introduced in the inaugural year. The obverse of the 2026 British Gold Britannia features King Charles III. This portrait of His Majesty, first introduced in 2022, was created by Martin Jennings. It depicts Charles III in left-profile relief without a crown.

On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Gold Britannia Coin, you will find Philip Nathan’s 1987 design. This interpretation of Britannia portrays her standing on a coastal rock formation, holding a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. She carries a Union Jack shield at her side and wears a Corinthian helmet.
