The Mexican Mint launched the Silver Libertad bullion series in 1982, beginning with the 1 oz silver BU coin. A year later, in 1983, a 1 oz proof silver coin was introduced to complement the series. Annual production of Proof Silver Libertads began in 1986, and throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the program grew to include smaller fractional weights and larger coins beyond 1 oz. In the obverse design of the 2025 1 Proof Silver Libertad Coin is the modern depiction of the national coat of arms. It shows a golden eagle locked in battle with a serpent while standing atop a prickly pear cactus. The 5 oz, 2 oz, and 1 oz versions of the coin include an outer ring of 10 earlier iterations of Mexico’s coat of arms surrounding the central design.

The reverse design of the 2025 Proof Mexican Silver Libertad presents Winged Victory. This image captures the famous statue at the peak of the Mexican Independence Victory Column, with the backdrop featuring the volcanic peaks of Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
