Product Details
The British Gold Britannia Series has been in production since 1987. Over the course of more than 35 years in production, the series has only ever featured a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. With the Queen’s passing in September 2022, King Charles III now sits on the throne and his effigy will start appearing on more British currency. Right now, 2023 1/10 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available to purchase online from Bullion Metals.

Since 1987, three different portraits of Queen Elizabeth II have been featured on the obverse of Gold Britannias. The latest, Jody Clark’s fifth-generation portrait of the Queen, made its final appearance earlier in the 2023 release as the Royal Mint worked to develop a King Charles III portrait. With that design ready, Her Majesty’s image will be retired from the series.
King Charles III is on the obverse of 2023 British Gold Britannia Coins. This effigy of the new King of England was created by Martin Jennings in late 2022 and offers a left-profile relief of the new monarch.
Britannia is on the reverse of 2023 1/10 oz Gold Britannia Coins. This design was created in 1987 by Philip Nathan and is used not only on the Gold Britannias, but also on the Silver Britannias and the Platinum Britannias. It depicts the female allegorical figure in front-facing relief as she looks to the right.
