The 2 Oklahoma Goldback Gold Note features a mother and child from an indigenous culture in the foreground, with a small village in the background. Other members of the tribe are seen in a canoe on the river. Oklahoma became home to one of the largest and most diverse Native American populations in the United States through both voluntary migration and forced relocation.

Oklahoma’s indigenous population was notably impacted by the Trail of Tears in the 1830s when the Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Seminole nations were forcibly removed from their ancestral southeastern homelands.
