Product Details
Struck between 1839 and 1891, the Seated Liberty Half Dollar series remains a notable part of American numismatic history. Collectors are drawn to this series for its range, which spans from commonly encountered coins in circulated condition to more difficult-to-find pieces that command attention in higher grades. This 1890 Seated Liberty Half Dollar is a beautiful proof specimen, one of just 590 originally issued, that earned a PF67 certification with an ultra-cameo designation from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Now, the 1890 Seated Liberty Half Dollar Coin is available online at Bullion Metals.

This 1890 Seated Liberty Half Dollar is a beautiful proof specimen that comes from a limited issue of only 590 coins. The PF67 grade indicates a coin with exceptional eye appeal, original mint luster, and no more than three of four minuscule contact marks. This stunning proof has deeply-mirrored background fields with bold, frosted design elements. The satin devices frame clean, glassy surfaces on both sides of the coin. Additionally, the piece has warm silver-and-pale champagne tones that enhance the visual appeal of the overall specimen.
The reverse of the 1890 Seated Liberty Half Dollar Coin presents a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings. A shield is displayed on the eagle’s chest, and it grasps arrows and an olive branch in its talons, symbolizing both defense and peace. In the years following the Civil War, coins from this series also feature the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a banner above the eagle.
By 1890, the Seated Liberty Half Dollar design was nearing the end of its long production run, and the Philadelphia Mint continued to strike a small number of proof examples each year for collectors and presentation purposes. The 1890 proof issue was produced in a very limited quantity, as was typical for the era, and survivors today are treasured as much for their technical perfection as for their rarity. Well-preserved examples retaining full cameo contrast between the reflective fields and frosted design elements are especially prized by advanced collectors.
