Justitia, the Roman personification of Justice, stands as one of the most recognizable female allegories in Western tradition. Typically shown wearing a blindfold to represent impartial judgment, she carries balanced scales used to weigh the merits of every argument and a double-edged sword that symbolizes the authority to enforce decisions with equal force. Her name originates from the Latin wordjustitia, meaning righteousness and fairness, and her imagery represents the principle that justice should be applied consistently, without preference or bias.

All 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Note Sets come with a total of 100 individual notes. The notes are bundled together with a black band, with each note boasting enhanced security features. These security elements include UV-reactive artwork, individual serial numbers, and micro-printing.

In the design of the 1/4 Idaho Goldback Gold Note, the allegorical figure of Justitia appears with Hells Canyon in the background. Formed over millions of years through the persistent erosion of the Snake River, Hells Canyon is the deepest river gorge in North America, reaching a maximum depth of roughly 7,993 feet along the border between Idaho and Oregon. Decorative elements on her belt include the syringa and the monarch butterfly. The syringa, Idaho’s state flower, is a native shrub recognized for its clusters of delicate white blossoms and lightly sweet fragrance. Complementing this symbol of the state’s natural environment, the monarch butterfly was designated as Idaho’s state insect in 1992.
