The obverse of the 1/4 Florida Goldback Gold Note features Pax within the calm, crystal-clear waters of Florida’s Molasses Reef. Known for its remarkable visibility and vibrant underwater scenery, Molasses Reef offers an environment where sunlight filters through the shallow tropical waters and casts shifting displays of gold and blue across the coral landscape. This natural illumination highlights the reef’s diverse marine life, creating an almost dreamlike setting beneath the surface. Among the reef’s most recognizable residents is the French Angelfish, a species distinguished by deep black scales outlined with bright golden-yellow accents. Its striking coloration and graceful movement through the reef make it appear like a living gemstone among the coral formations.

Molasses Reef is one of the crown jewels of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, a magnificent coral reef system located approximately six miles southeast of Key Largo whose extraordinary biodiversity, crystal clear waters, and remarkable accessibility have made it one of the most visited and beloved dive and snorkel destinations in the entire United States.
